STRATEGY: Hyperreal Landscapes

In the Surrealist paintings of Dali, unlikely objects are juxtaposed against a stark and barren background. This creates a feeling of strangeness.

In this project however, the objects are the the landscape. Using 3D-scanned meshes of an oyster and a squash, a convoluted space is produced. A variety of scales are used to remove familiarity and abstract the objects.

The landscape was then corrupted using a pixelizing script. The resultant landscape resembles a coral reef-like environment. Yet upon closer inspection, the oyster and squash reveal themselves, producing a moment of estrangement.
